Students received their project packet on September 1. A due date of October 2 was given. Nets are still available to check-out.
During the weeks of September 21st and 28th students will be required to bring some of their specimens to school for identifying and labeling. Much of the identifying and grouping will be done at school, but not all. Field guides for identification may be checked out at night, but must be returned before school the next morning.
Students received a rubric showing how their project will be graded.
Students should attempt to make their project look great!! Labels that are typed are a plus, as is a wrapping paper background that is pleasant to look at, but not so busy that it detracts from the insects.
CHECKLIST FOR PROJECT
- insects (24 different species is the goal)
- board to display the insects on
- covering material for the board (wrapping paper works well)
- labels for individual specimens and a label for each insect order
- divide the board into the different insect orders
- spread large butterflies using a spreader-board(at school)
- identification of specimens (common names, not scientific names)
- pin and place each specimen in to the correct insect order
- place a label with student's name and hour on the project
